5 Ways to Keep Your Alaskan Klee Kai Entertained
Despite their small size, the Alaskan Klee Kai is an active and energetic breed of dog. Not only do they need daily physical exercise, but they also require mental stimulation every day in order to remain in tip-top shape.
However if you’ve ever met an Alaskan Klee Kai, you’d know that they tend to get bored pretty easily; that is, they probably aren’t the type to play fetch for hours on end (not to say that some don’t of course). So how would we go about providing the proper entertainment for these pups?
Well, we’re proud to say that after years of serving as a human assistant to an Alaskan Klee Kai, we’ve been able to keep track of some of the best activities to help keep them in check. Let’s go over a few.
#1: Doggy Puzzles

While there are dozens of different types out there, they generally work the same way- you put your pet’s favourite treats in a slot, which is then “hidden” from them, as part of the toy’s design. To get to the goodies, they then have to figure out where they are, and how to get it out from said toy.
Alaskan Klee Kai are highly intelligent though, so you’re most likely going to have to switch it up every once in a while to keep it challenging and fun for them!
#2: The “Find It” Game

Alaskan Klee Kai love to use their keen sense of smell to sniff things out- especially when they’re yummy and edible! The only thing is, you have to make sure that your dog isn’t watching you while you’re hiding them otherwise it’d ruin the point of the game! The good thing about the “Find It” game is that you are pretty much an infinite amount of places where you can hide the treats!
If you want to kick it up a notch, you can also use it with a snuffle mat!
#3: Teach Your Alaskan Klee Kai New Tricks

Given the right motivation (e.g. food), the Alaskan Klee Kai can be very keen and eager to learn new stunts. It’s a brilliant way to keep them thinking and best of all, it tires them out! If you notice that your pet is starting to get restless and distracted from the learning session, that may be a cue for the two of you to take a short break. After all, learning new things can be tiring!
#4: Engage Them in Agility

While some may take agility classes, you actually don’t have to pay to engage your dog in such activities. You can simply buy an inexpensive indoor agility kit and use it right in a well-spaced area of your home, such as the living room or backyard. It’s a great way to keep them on their toes and they’ll love taking part in it too!
#5: Let Them Play with Other Alaskan Klee Kai

For instance, they love standing on their hind legs and “wrestling” with each other; they usually aren’t all too shy about vocalizing it either.
The voices that they make when they play can sound pretty intimidating; in fact, if you were any other dog owner, it might even make you a little nervous. But every Alaskan Klee Kai owner knows that it’s just all in good fun.
If you live in a fairly populated area, chances are, you’re probably not the only “mini-husky” owner out there- don’t be shy about searching and reaching out to other Alaskan Klee Kai owners! Alaskan Klee Kai meet-ups are a fantastic way of connecting with others and meeting new friends, both for you and your pet!
