5 Reasons Why Alaskan Klee Kai are Actually Half Cat
Alaskan Klee Kai are special dogs―in fact, many owners would tell you that they’re super different from most of the dog breeds which they’ve encountered before. On the outside, they may look like mini huskies but don’t let that fool you, their personalities and quirks are completely a different package!
While they crave attention from their humans, they can also be independent; they like doing things but only on their own terms. They’re smart, and they know it. Their smarts may get them into trouble from time to time, but that really doesn’t matter all too much to them―after all, you’re likely to forgive them as soon as they whip out their puppy eyes.
Their unique catlike qualities have earned them a seemly nickname from fellow owners―the “Klee Kat.” That is, an Alaskan Klee Kai that is seemingly half cat. How did that moniker come to be? To answer that, let’s go over some of their puzzling feline behaviours.
#1: Alaskan Klee Kai Love to Sit on Top of Furniture

When you see your Alaskan Klee Kai in such a position for the first time, it might make you a little nervous. But by the hundredth time, you’ve probably grown used to and have accepted the fact that yes―he’s just a tiny bit different from the rest of the dogs.
#2: Alaskan Klee Kai have a Thing for Cat Trees
If you put a regular dog next to a cat tree, he’ll probably stare at it for half a second and move on. The Alaskan Klee Kai on the other hand, would jump and make his way to the top (maybe even beating the actual cat there) to claim his rightful throne on the other end.
For one reason or another, they tend to have a thing for cat trees; they seem to like sitting on the top of them just as much as their feline counterparts―sometimes perhaps even more so. Half cat? We’d like to think so.
#3: Alaskan Klee Kai Like to Stare at, Observe and Silently Judge People Through Windows

Maybe it’s just the watch dog in them, but many Alaskan Klee Kai do enjoy resting themselves in front of a window to watch and observe the people who walk by, as far as one can tell anyways. Returning home after having a busy day, you may even find your Alaskan Klee Kai poking his head out from between the blinds!
#4: Alaskan Klee Kai Like to Sunbathe
If there’s a sunny spot in your living room, your Alaskan Klee Kai will probably be the first to notice, and bathe in it. If they’re in a sun-drenched backyard with a lovely shady area then most likely, they’re in the sunny area―nothing like absorbing a little bit of Vitamin D outside after all.
The fact is, they like to sunbathe. If you also have a cat, you might even find your Alaskan Klee Kai curling up against his feline friend together in the sun. Something about the feeling of having sunshine on fur must be so irresistible.
#5: Alaskan Klee Kai Like Walking on High Surfaces

These dogs are excellent jumpers and are highly adept at walking on seemingly dangerous, high surfaces. But of course, they’re also intelligent and smart enough to know that they’re not supposed to be on said surfaces―when you’re there in the house with them.
It’s not uncommon for those who’ve set up a video cam in the house to see your Alaskan Klee Kai walking on counter tops while they’re out of the house!
