Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue: Finding Vulnerable Canines Loving Homes

The Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue (AKKNR) Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Ottawa, Kansas. It’s the largest corporation in the state running rescue and adoption programs, and its core focus is on the Alaskan Klee Kai (AKK) breed.

Each year, many of these pets are dumped in shelters after their owners abandon them. Other AKKs (Alaskan-Klee-Kais) suffer abuse while under the care of harsh owners. The AKKNR believes that these animals deserve better than living in a pen or going through abuse. Since 2008, AKKNR Inc. has founded loving homes for many AKKs whose lives were in jeopardy.

The Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue Mission

The AKK National Rescue hopes to promote pet adoption, reduce animal cruelty and end unnecessary euthanasia. The shelter hopes to place all vulnerable and stray AKKs into wonderful homes where loving owners will take care of them for the rest of their lives.

How an Abandoned Alaskan Klee Kais Ends Up in a Shelter

Most Alaskan Klee Kais end up in shelters because their previous owners cannot continue to take care of them. For example, some families give up their pets because they may be expecting a newborn or are encountering health difficulties.

The team at AKKNR works with other rescue and shelter homes to find vulnerable AKKs permanent homes. The organization’s strict screening program ensures that every rescued pet finds loving owners. They maintain the highest standards in animal welfare by not only providing a temporary home for rescued animals, but also ensuring that pets are given proper veterinary care, and are well trained and sociable.

How You Can Help

For those who want to support the worthy cause of AKK National Rescue, there are many ways to help. To begin with, you can support the organization’s mission by adopting an AKK. Many of these pets end up in overcrowded shelters where they suffer neglect and develop health problems. In the worst scenarios, older AKKs undergo euthanasia. You can save a life by adopting a healthy, trained Alaskan Klee Kai.

To support the AKKNR programs, you can also make a donation. The organization welcomes and appreciates anyone willing to give away pet toys, leashes and collars. Money donations can be made directly via PayPal through the organization’s website, or by participating in the eBay Giving Works program. Alternatively, you can make your contribution by buying Bling products from the Lanie brand since a portion of every sale will go towards supporting AKKNR.

Lastly, you can volunteer your time and skills to help the AKKNR team. From organizing fundraisers and collecting donations to contacting regional rescue coordinators when an Alaskan Klee Kai is in need of help, your efforts will go a long way in ensuring that these dogs do not have to suffer anymore.
